About the artwork
Abstract Textures 4.1 (37.5” x 43.25”/ 95.25 x 110cm) © 2014-2026 Jean M. Judd/Artists Rights Society New York Hand Stitched Thread on Dye Painted Textile Abstract Textures 4.1 features the large spiral design format and the whole cloth construction with hand applied dyes from condiment bottles and minimal foam brush strokes to create the ground for the artwork. Dark tones of yellow, neon green, fuchsia, purple, turquoise, brown, and medium black are the predominant colors until viewed more closely, and then small areas of olive, chartreuse, grey, green, and golden yellow appear. As I review my notes on the Abstract Textures 2... 3... and 4…series, I realize that the ground textiles for all twelve of these artworks were dye painted during the three months before my father died of Lewy Body Dementia in 2014. The stress and mental anguish I experienced then is very much reflected in the harsh dye application and frantic designs in each of these pieces. The spiral textural design I had put on each piece in 2014 and have hand stitched years later, reflects the uncontrolled whirlwind I felt I was in at the time and now am reliving some of these feelings again now in 2026 with different family members. Dense hand stitching of kelly green, dark and pale purple, pale yellow, dark brown, royal blue, and two shades of orange threads, provide visual and physical texture as well as shadowing effects. White thread creates the angular divisions in each stitched spiral. An image of the back of the artwork and a close-up of the textural stitching shows the meticulous workmanship. Installation of this piece can be in either a vertical or horizontal orientation, which increases the display options for this work. Merging this artwork with any or all the pieces in this series, creates a dynamic contemporary artwork with unlimited shape and size installation possibilities. **Contact Artist for relevant shipping charges to Buyer's location.**Medium Details
