About the artwork

Sandwash Basin in Colorado is a special place where mustangs still roam free. There are always conflicts over how best to manage the land for the horses and the ranchers who use the same land for their flocks. Still, it is an amazing place. To be there, watching these magnificent animals in the wild, defending their harems, hoping to attract a new mare, and developing the skills needed is simply beautiful. These two stallions were sparring. Practice for when they have mares of their own to defend. I was drawn to all of the different colors in these mustangs. The grey stallion was bright against the deep background of the impending storm, while the chestnut stallion complimented the deep blue-gray sky.
