This painting has placed a second time in the Top 100 Finalist in the November 2022 Plein-Air Salon, Western Category. Thank you Lance Rehs, Director of Rehs Contemporary, New York, NY. This painting placed in the Top 100 Finalist in the July 2022 Plein Air Salon, Western Category. I found out during the Blowing Rock Plein Air Art Festival and was honored and excited for my work to place among such amazing works of art. A retreat in Aspen, Colorado in the mid-'90s provided a wonderful opportunity to see those beautiful majestic mountains. I was inspired by the way the ski slopes appeared as though buttermilk was gently poured down that appropriately named mountain! I hope I adequately captured that feeling for those who love to ski or take in the view of Buttermilk Mountain! A reference photo, memory and imagination were used in place of en plein air since the place no longer looks like this. A burnt sienna grisaille underpainting was used to establish the atmospheric depth. Several passes of color were then placed to create the effect of buttermilk being pour down those slopes!
