About the artwork

During an immersive cultural experience in Japan, I met a sweet man who said “Call Me Salty” and he brought many smiles to my face.
He came on his motorcycle, wearing wooden flip flops on a cold day in Jan to see the art exhibit and to meet the American artists. He danced the Charleston, brought friends from his English class, and entertained us with the funniest stories.
In a country where people are quiet and reserved, he was a delightful anomaly. The museum staff didn’t know what to make of him at first. I think we all have different faces. Some we put on when we want to be noticed, and others we wear when we are pensive and prefer to be alone. But no matter the culture, we are all human, and keepers of many faces. We are each so much more than what you can know in a fleeting moment.
