About the artwork

Inspired by a plein air study at South Holston Lake while my husband was fishing. It was cold and all I was able to do was a grisaille underpainting of the calm and peaceful lake reflecting the sunrise as it broke through the clouds above the distant mountains. I had to finish in the studio and use a lot of memory to capture the feel of that moment........wishing he was there with me watching that sunrise! It was one of those moments you wish you could share and there was plenty of room on that rock. Several passes of color, glazing and scumbling were used to enhance the atmospheric depth in this rendering. The painting was juried and accepted into the "Rendezvous in Scottsdale", International Guild of Realism National Exhibition 2024. This painting was juried and accepted into the Spring On-line Elected Artist, Fellow, Signature and Life AAPL Member Show and was juried into the AAPL, "Realism on the Hudson" juried show in Beacon, NY August 27 through October 1, 2023 This painting was also awarded Top 100 Finalist in April 2023 Plein Air Salon for Best Water
