Judd/Artists Rights Society (ARS) New York Hand Stitched Thread on Dye Painted Textile Abstract Textures 3.1 continues the undulating spiral and wave forms found in the earlier pieces of this series. Whole cloth construction with hand applied dyes from condiment bottles, created the ground for the artwork. Bright tones of yellow, fuchsia, truffle brown, turquoise, and black are the predominant colors until viewed more closely, and then small areas of olive, chartreuse, orange, and purple appear. Dense hand stitching of spring green and blue-violet threads provides visual and physical texture as well as shadowing effects. Installation of this piece can be in either a vertical or horizontal orientation, which increases the display options for this work.
