About the artwork

I saw these radiator valves in an antique shop in Detroit, and having grown up in Motown, they spoke to me. I bought them for future still life paintings. When TSA asked me what was in my carry on, I'd forgotten all about them. Imagine this scene, with me trying to explain to a TSA agent at the airport, how I'm an artist and these radiator valves really spoke to me, because - car parts - and so I had to buy them. I don't think it helped me appear more sane when I giggled at the look on his face. He must have been thinking "Geez, I meet all kinds in this job." Well, he let me get on the plane. And I brought my 3 radiator valves with me.

I feel like some of us were born to radiate. It may take an occasional spritz of oil to keep us going, but we are up for the challenge.
