This painting is calm and unassuming and yet it is my favourite painting in many ways. The beauty and sophistication of this bouquet of dried Honesty seeds, is in the subtlety of the white, monochrome subject still showing ample colour as colours shift in temperature in the shadows implying reflected light. The way that the colours are still showing even though they’ve been diluted and muted with white truly highlights the strength of staining power of Indian yellow, cobalt and quinachradone rose! This painting taught me how using high chroma colours for mixing with white in monochrome paintings is the key to capturing vibrance.
