During a stint exploring the old masters’ techniques of lead tonal underpainting together with glazing, I was captivated by a silk costume that was particularly juicy to capture in this way. As you may or may not know, red looses it’s vibrance when you add white to it, which is why I used an underpainting and when I applied a transparent red onto of the white painting, the colour was the right tone AND vibrance.
