Zelda Speight-John is an emerging artist in Austin, Texas. Her current work focuses on layered still lifes built from fabric, paper, paint, and other media. Her work often depicts objects found in her home, and plants and landscapes seen in North Georgia and Central Texas. Her use of textiles comes from a lifelong love with interior design and decorative arts. This combined with her painting style results in assemblages that are rich in color and texture, depicting vibrant, playful subject matter. Zelda is a second generation artist originally from Northeast Georgia who received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia. Her inspirations are Edvard Munch, Paul Gauguin, Radcliffe Bailey, Lynthia Edwards, and Sky Hoyt. Outside of the studio, Zelda is frequently cooking with her husband and young son, reading British mystery series, or in a heated debate with her tuxedo cat, Uma.
