Sandy Newell was born in Chicago and currently resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. She works primarily in watercolor, using a pouring technique to create unexpected textures and reactions. Sandy received her BFA from the University of Illinois and her MBA from Loyola University of Chicago. She began her career as a graphic designer and successfully operated her own design studio for fifteen years. She also taught art at the local grade school for several years, learning as much from her students as they did from her. Sandy is a member the Arizona Watercolor Society and in 2021 received an Award of Distinction for her painting “Poseidon”. She is a signature member of the Illinois Watercolor Society and won a Best In Show in 2018 for her painting”OMG”. “OMG” was also on exhibit at the Phoenix airport. Sandy is represented by The Finer Arts Gallery in Cave Creek.
