Roy-Michael GIBSON (b. 1975) is an artist with a singular style, akin to Fernando BOTERO (b. 1932), that makes his work instantly recognizable and distinguishable from others that paint of the “human experience”. He does the line work as one continuous extemporaneous stroke which provides the simple and fluid movement. This approach forces the painting to be distilled to the most basic, most poignant, and most pragmatic elements necessary to convey meaning. When presenting his work he prefers that the viewer ask “why” vs “how” and to take time to look for the complexity he weaves through the simplicity. He generally paints large scale and since he doesn’t have to live off of art sales his wholly original style is available for what amounts to cost. He probably should, but he generally does not enjoy hanging around other artist; fortunately for him his family accepts this character flaw. Roy-Michael GIBSON’s paintings are in private collections and he periodically participates in shows.
